Schwarzenegger has claimed to be about 80% vegan, but makes an occasional exception for the Austrian steak
Schwarzenegger has claimed to be about 80 percent vegan, but makes an occasional exception for Austrian steak to help him maintain his diet long-term.
The Hollywood legend spoke about the benefits of a vegan diet, which according to him can also be useful for bodybuilders to build muscle even with plant-based diets.
“My bad cholesterol number is so low that my doctor thought I might be a different person,” Schwarzenegger said in his monthly newsletter addressed to his fans.
Doctors say it’s because oxidized LDL cholesterol is more likely to stick to artery walls and form plaque, which clogs these blood vessels.
Many animal-based foods such as certain cuts of meat, processed meats such as bacon and hot dogs, and dairy products such as cheese are linked to increased cholesterol.
Additionally, animal fats such as butter, ghee, margarine and spreads made from animal fats, lard, lard and gravy are some cholesterol-raising foods, many of which are low in saturated fat.
According to health experts, vegetables, especially leafy greens, on the contrary, can help reverse and lower cholesterol.
Exercise regularly
Schwarzenegger says he trains regularly and divides his training six days a week focusing on different body parts each day.
What does Schwarzenegger eat in a day?
According to his newsletter, the Terminator star eats similar meals every day, balancing his protein intake evenly across breakfast, lunch and dinner.
“The morning after a workout, I usually have oatmeal with Greek yogurt or granola. For lunch, I always have a salad, sometimes with a plant-based burger or maybe salmon or chicken. Other times, it’s with a scramble or an omelette. I always have soup for dinner, I like to eat lightly for my last meal,” she revealed.
Schwarzenegger also said her favorite foods include vegetable soup recipes with chickpeas, low-fat yogurt, broth, olive oil, and herbs.
How do plants help lower cholesterol?
According to health experts, high cholesterol levels increase with foods high in saturated fat as they stimulate the body to produce extra cholesterol.
Plants do the opposite. Being low in saturated fat and cholesterol-free, plants, also rich in soluble fiber, help lower cholesterol. Soluble fiber slows the absorption of cholesterol and reduces the amount produced by the liver. Foods like oats, barley, beans, and some fruits and vegetables are all good sources of soluble fiber.
